We care deeply about our kids who leave home for college. We want them to stay connected to the community and to Judaism. Holidays away from home can make even the happiest college student a bit homesick, so we send all of our students packages for each holiday. The packages consist of appropriate food for the holidays (hamantaschen on Purim, apples and honey on Rosh Hashanah), ritual objects (menorah and candles on Channukah), snacks, and a letter from the rabbi. This letter is both a reminder about how one can celebrate the holiday as well as rabbinic musings on a theme or idea relevant to college students. It is very important to Rabbi Schuck that PJC college students know that they have a rabbi, and his door is always open to them.
