Bikkur Cholim Committee
Bikkur Cholim means visiting the sick, and that is part of the responsibility of this Committee. Luckily, in the PJC congregation, most people are healthy, so the mitzvah of visiting the sick has also extended to visiting the elderly. We have several members of the congregation who have reached biblical ages! Our committee members visit each of these wonderful women, and any other elderly congregants who would appreciate company on a regular basis.
Jacqueline Stein is responsible for organizing the Bikkur Cholim committee, with the help of the Rabbi and the other committee members. Jacqui establishes a visiting schedule for each month and communicates with the elderly congregants and the committee members.
Members of the PJC community who are ill, elderly or just in need of company should contact the Rabbi. The Rabbi will establish contact with the Bikkur Cholim committee (through Jacqui) and the committee will respond to the congregant’s needs. The committee will make regular home visits, hospital visits, telephone calls; in addition, we are available to help with other needs of the sick (for example, family meals while a parent is in the hospital.) The Bikkur Cholim committee is here to help the PJC community in times of need.
